Frank Kozik was a Spanish-born American graphic artist best known for his posters for alternative rock bands.

Kozik was born in Madrid, Spain. His mother was Spanish, while his father served in the military. He relocated to Sacramento, California, to live with his father in 1976 when he was 15 years old.

He joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18 after quitting high school and was stationed in Austin, Texas, where he later made his home.

In 1993, Kozik relocated to San Francisco, where he established Man’s Ruin Records and opened a print business, releasing more than 200 records by punk and alternative bands. To concentrate on fine art, he shut down the label in 2001.

Working with bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Melvins, The Offspring, Butthole Surfers, and Helmet as his reputation expanded.

Kozik created many album covers, including the ones for The Offspring’s Americana and Queens of the Stone Age’s 1998 self-titled debut. He directed the “Pretty Noose” music video by Soundgarden. Smorkin’ Labbit was made by Kozik, who also served as Kidrobot’s Creative Director.

Despite being well known for his screen prints, a valuable painting of the Labbit was sold in a TV blind auction.
